Nowadays, I hear things that I don’t practically understand, millennial terms that I need to ask my son its’ meaning even how it is pronounced. He helps me update my vocabulary especially that I blog/ write. Like “rad” (cool or edgy), “meme”, “sepanx”, “salty”, “fleek”, “bae”, “adulting”, “chill”, “squad goals”, “instagrammable”, “yolo” or “fomo”, “FC” (feeling close), to mention a few.
There’s one term that I’m really loving lately: “Brekkie!”
I see it everywhere!
So since I’m loving this word, and literally loving having it, I might as well blog about it, I only have a few photos as references, but I’ll start collecting. You may contribute and add one here if you wish so, and I’ll try it if time (and budget) permits me!

Jen my foodie buddie promised me weeks ago that she will treat me to another breakfast place: “Eggs for Breakfast”, she has spotted it on her way home to Antipolo and we’ve been meaning to visit it soonest. And definitely I shall add it here. =) I recently found one in Alabang too, “Bean & Yolk”. Any suggestions please? =)
Coming across an article that featured restaurants with the most beautiful and impressive interiors, being a designer, it has drawn me to see them up close and personal. Neil’s Kitchen was in that list though I’ve been there several times and I must agree that their interiors is not just beautiful, their food is awesome too. The next that caught my attention from the list is The Black Pig.
It is a few blocks away from Neil’s Kitchen. It’s in Alabang too at the second level of Commerce Center. Without the heat of the sun, it is walking distance for me. The Black Pig’s facade isn’t too attractive as the whole place from the outside isn’t well- lighted. But the welcoming smiles of their attendants will compensate for that which kept my brain engaged.
Since Jen already commented:”The placed looked gloomy.” This is because they opted to use hanging lamps and pin lights on selected areas.
Upon entrance, it is only the time I began admiring the place from the interiors, their furniture, lighting system, the colors that they’ve chosen, the vigilance of their attendants to the table wares (made by a known potter from Laguna), cutlery and the food itself.
There are some touches of green elements which add life to the whole place. What will caught your attention is definitely the bar.
It exudes order and class by the use of black and brown finishes. Usually, most bars looked untidy even if the items are properly arranged due to the fact that you see everything from it: sorts of bottles, glass, machines, some bars are even with baskets of fruits displayed on the counter like so much is happening in it. At The Black Pig, you will see the clutter though it will not sore your depicting eyes.
There’s even a guide for drinking wine.

When it comes to food. We had a three course meal altogether which started with a green salad:
I am training my palette with fresh greens and it’s followed by a slow-cooked chicken dish:
and home-made ice cream for dessert.
We had the feel of drinking Al fresco with that refreshing raspberry iced tea.
According to the attendants, peak time is usually dinner time onward because they serve alcoholic drinks too.
During the afternoon, if you wish for a less crowded place to have lunch or snack. The Black pig will give you that. It is ideal for business meetings too. For the overall experience, dining there, the ambiance, service and carefully prepared food is recommendable.

Just recently, I wrote about this restaurant in Alabang which I found one of those places to drink and dine with the best interiors.
And again recently, I discovered another just a few blocks away from my work place. It’s sitting there for years now, when the new wing was constructed and it’s been a while that I have been to this mall.
True enough, anybody or any designer can create a space, though not all can come up with something enticing from the first look, that’s why if you rate a place, there is an allotted score for ambiance. Spatzle has the modern country feel. It is very welcoming.
Shangri-la Edsa mall is a 15 minute drive from work. It can offer you a wide array of choices when it comes to dining. Some of our most favorite Japanese restaurants are there, some French, Mediterranean, Chinese, Italian and of course Filipino restaurants.
This time, we know for a fact that shopping can get so tiring and we ended up hungry like wolves.
We learned earlier of this place that’s new to us. Spatzle Euro Market Cafeserves European cuisines with cool interiors, not too stiff and casual enough to literally enjoy another dining experience after a hard day’s work and shopping, and if I may I not miss to mention, the disappointment of getting something you really want when it is out of stock. Come on Jen, let’s eat!!!!
So we headed right away to that part of this mall where the food spots are. Spatzle is situated in a corner, before reaching it, we came across a few, with barkers outside. However, we already know where we’re heading.
Jen knew too, I do not like it, I mean “hard-selling” because it makes me doubt, why the place isn’t packed.
And even if at Spatzle, there are only a few tables occupied when we arrived, the more it encouraged us to get in since a crowded place only means longer waiting time for them to spread your orders. Besides, the open air feel is very inviting. And there are no barkers. =)
It didn’t took us long as well to place our orders. Yes, we’re hungry, and whatever angle I choose, our orders seems to be too much for 2 persons.
We opted to share with one another this tongue twisting delight: the “Tarte Flambe Monte blanc”.Which toppings I especially liked, the paprika flavored potato chips, which they call as “Paprika chips”.
I had the “Bacon mozza logs”
and Jen got a burger: the “Spatz haus burger”. One of their best sellers.
We had “Watermelon slush” sweetened with wild honey to soften, in anticipation, the savor of all that we will consume in the next few minutes. We were offered to try their desserts, however, we were so full after digging.
After digging with no holds-barred kind of way, we knew that we will visit a second time. They pulled it off well. We both liked what we’ve chosen and enjoyed all the other extra ingredients thrown in it. We actually checked and eyed others from the menu. We will definitely come back. =)
I will get the bacon mozza logs once again. Since Mozzarella cheese in particular is like a happy pill for me! Yum!
I found it cute that they have sanitizers along the cubiertos comin’ in handy too. =)

For the foodies in us, it is more often that we tend to compare one preparation from another. The way it is presented. Its’ taste. And of course its’ impact on our budget.
In our search for a nachos salad that will excite us in a different way as we’ve tried more than a dozen. We ended up in this secluded Mediterranean themed restaurant in BF Paranaque. It still is a part of the Food Mecca which BF Paranaque is known for. It has been part of my bucket list for places loved by foodies. It is located at the farther part of BF Homes which connects to the other side of Las Pinas.
I actually wonder who started the progression of numerous queue of restaurants where guests couldn’t figure out who has the edge over the other. And they have it all. Pastry shops, American, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Coffee shops, name it. Believe me I couldn’t count them no more.
Honestly Cafe Alezon is enticing, not only because of that huge mural of one of my favorite artist from Mexico – Frida Kahlo. Which for me took center stage. While I am not the first one to blog about Cafe Alezon. Thanks to these bloggers who lead me to discover one such quaint place that offers delicious cuisine.
Most of those I’ve read were from artists (and foodies) like me. And it’s a colleague from Machuca tiles who encouraged me to visit and personally check their tiles at Cafe Alezon. So the reason why I need to go out of my way to go farther beyond Aguirre street is not only to satiate my tummy but to appreciate the decorative tiles (and the interiors itself, as a whole) which is all over the place and you can spot them even on their tables. If I didn’t mention in the past, I have once fallen in love with anything that’s black and white too. Floorings included. =)
I must say that it was kinda tiring to reach the place by commuting. It’s just worth it when we arrived and the neon signage of all their best sellers welcomed us.
While waiting for our food, we were thrilled to take some photos to our hearts’ content. I must admit that I am so enthralled in seeing in actual this place that is loved by so many. Originally, my friend is most proud to boast the one that they installed at Antonio’s in Tagaytay and I’ve been keeping it in my list for years now. Though, for now, Cafe Alezon is the one near at hand.
So what we’ve had is of course their Nachos Y Salsa.
The attendant offered this sauce to us and I forgot to ask if its strong and it was.
Then, we also tried the Cookie shot. It is something worth a second or even a third try. And it is new to me.
The Turon are with sweetened lanca which served as our dessert though this is something we can always prepare at home. It is nothing extra-ordinary like the one I’ve tried at Kanin club.
For our drinks, we tried their brewed and Turkish coffee, another take of the third wave coffee beans.
The ambiance of the place has its’ old feel and gives the impression of the owner to be a lover of art, probably a coffee lover too and a frequent traveler. It is prevalent in the stuff displayed in all four corners. It looked like a mini art museum to me. =)
Upon interviewing their attendants which courtesy and geniality aren’t canned. There are weekends where there are Art shows by a conclave of local Artists which draw more crowds.
When we came, there are 3 tables occupied inside and 1 outside. After staying for almost an hour, they are still there maybe due to the “homey” feel of the place and during that hour, guests come and go and when we’re about to leave, there’s already couple who are about to occupy the table that we’ve had.
I actually wont mind if Jen will ask me to go back. Not just because of their love for art but because of the other items in their menu that sounds and looks interesting to me too. I am looking forward to try their pizza and paella.
Envisioning this pursuit befittingly makes me a foodie… I don’t mind. =)
It was such a week and a “staycation” is the next best thing that we thought of.
What made it more exciting is the place where we are staying surprised me to find out that “Dayrits” is their tenant which cater to all of their guests’ cravings.
Gone are the moments when each time I’ll pass by Magallanes, I would see their restaurant below the fly-over and most of the time I would wish to jump-off the bus and head to Dayrits and devour on their famous roast beef steak.
Some years ago, when I used to work in Makati, Dayrits have been one of those places that has become one of our favorite spot. We hang out there for a hefty lunch or dinner, and young as I was (I am barely 30 years old then), the bosses will treat us there and established it as a habit.
I’ve missed their line-up a lot. There’s tocino with atchara, roast beef and baked potato and even spam steak with pinapple slices on it to sweeten it lightly. I will not forget their gravy, it was a stand-out.
Coming across the current menu, I instantly noticed that there have been some changes over the years.
If some could correct me (as the staff is no longer aware of it, like the skiletti of Shakeys, no one remembers it anymore), the rice that they pair with the roast beef is java rice.
At present, they only serve steamed rice and pineapple rice. Still, we ordered for their famous roast beef and opted for a steamed rice. And for me to gorge on the gravy, I ordered for another beef dish and suggested to Jen that she order the famous roast beef.
In my humblest opinion, I knew Jen didn’t like it that much, because she mentioned another place where the gravy tastes best. And I understand where she’s coming from.
I was a bit disappointed too, however, it is very slight and I am more excited to have tried it after so many years.
Besides, there are a lot of restaurants nowadays to choose from. And speaking of tenderness, none so far can beat the one I tried from Duck and Buvette which soon I’ll let Jen try.
I must not forget mentioning. Their baked potato topped with bacon bits is still a show-stopper.
When we were trying to figure out where to have our dinner that night, since we are a stone throw away from Aguirre St. of BF Paranaque. We all know that this particular street is a Foodie hub, we opted to dine at Dayrits so we would have more time to relax after and plunge in the pool before calling the weekend off…
I will no longer crave every time I pass by Dayrits, my cravings granted unplanned. =)
