Each time I am visiting a new place. It feels like a Get-away or an escape from the usual humdrum of daily life. It sets my vibe. Like when I visited Arte Mondo at the Artelano 11 inside the compound of Henry Hotel at F.B. Harrison, Pasay City. It is a Pre-Holiday Gathering of Premier Filipino Design, a collaboration between Artelano 11 and The Travelling Trunk.

After the canvasing and shopping and “Can’t get enough mode” of taking photos from this exhibit, very timely for the upcoming Christmas season, all we wanted to do is eat. We actually, had DIC (Jen, where is our photo of Mamang Sorbetero?) already.

We were very lucky to find one at the lobby of Henry Hotel: Apartment 1B, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, owned by Chef Marivic Diaz Lim and that there are two branches in Makati (One in Salcedo and another one in Rockwell Center). they offer gourmet comfort food and is actually under the wings of The 1B Group along with Kitchen 1B and Pablo. The former is a healthier version of their amazing offerings while the latter is a Continental Bistro bar.

Jen had pizza and I had pasta. We also tried their coffee, I had cafe latte and Jen had Vittoria coffee and espresso.

My foodie buddy took care of the menu as I took joy in taking photos. I fell in love with their interiors while enjoying the piped-in music that softly played songs of Carla Bruni. And even if I do not understand most of it, It was so relaxing.

And we really appreciate the experience of being here. The people are very nice. The place was old and they were able to preserve (and restore) most timeworn elements, the windows with decorative glass, the doors, especially those floors. F.B. Harrison street is very rich in history, passing along by it, you’ll see quite a number of manors that’s been sublimely standing still after many generations.

Jen and I were wishing that soon we will go back to stay at Henry Hotel even for a few days. It is located at the heart of Pasay City but the feel is very different while we’re inside the compound. It is so tranquil and composed and those greens are very relaxing.

Art in every corner. Those greens are old bottles of wine.

If you’re the type looking for so much more than food and drinks and chilling down south? Upperdeck bar and restaurant has more. They have pool, billiard hall, tattoo sessions and they have live acoustic and open mic jam. There’s ladies night, pay per views, name it.

There’s no denying that Upperdeck is a place where I can bring my friends not because the Owners are my friends but because the place is literally noteworthy. =)

A sweet couple so busy, still made time to see me. =)

So, one night, Jen and I went to the place and these are what we truly enjoyed. Most of their “Best sellers”!

It’s interiors by the way is not the soft type, and not too stiff at the same time. It has some quirky side and what’s eminent is its’ masculine side. Giving you hints that the prime movers of this cool place are actually four gentlemen. =)

Those are liquor bottles cut in half, so creative! =)

Over-all look and “feel” is just perfect for their offerings. =)

The whole idea just popped out during one of their usual time together and as determined as these four are, it came to life. Serving thousands who’d always leave pleased and are already planning as to when they’re going to go back. Just like Jen and I did. =)

So when you’re heading down south, wanting just to chill, unwind and enjoy the night, treat yourself by visiting Upperdeck!=)

Purple Tree: Bed and Breakfast…

The positive effect of the Full Moon is still with me. Tons of good news I have received in the days that have passed. And in one way or another, I’d like to believe that on top of committing mistakes unintentionally, I have also made a lot of things through the years that are right.

Feeling grateful, I also thought of givin’ myself a break. To unwind and relax and enjoy “me” time over the weekend.

Well, not literally “Me” time since I was with my ever loyal foodie buddy to accompany me spending my “Me” time. Besides, she is that one of those few friends who will give me all the freedom to literally be myself. And she is one of those reasons why I am thankful. Apart from my son, my job, my mom, my close circle and God. Nothing is inside my heart but gratefulness.

So we thought of a “staycation”. A 2 days and 1 night vacation just to change our environment and be away from our daily routine.

Being fascinated with the color purple. I came across a Bed and breakfast just an hour away from home. As their tag line says:

“Your home away from home.”

It is truly a happy place (plus the fact that my favorite color is all over the place), it is within a city, but ironically, it gave us a kind of peace and quiet. The only sound I’ve heard while I was there is the rippling waters from the falls situated at the edge of their 5 feet swimming pool and the water fall from a few fountains.

It was nice to know that I still can do a few lapses and Jen’s swimming skill is improving. She’s on her way to mastering on how to float and do freestyles as well.

Apparently, all guests were already in their rooms and the pool was all on our own.

I instantly transformed into a mermaid..

However, we all know that swimming is exhausting..

Another sound that I appreciated is the jingle of a favorite network which I have been watching when I was living a life in a suitcase some years ago. This network was my company all the while I was alone in a hotel miles away from home.

Apart from being purple, they are “green” as well.. Those toiletries are so cute… =)

What made it more befitting is the fact that they featured a mini gallery of a famous Filipina artist – Dulcie Dee.

We know for a fact that I’ve always admired the work of fellow artists..

This experience resulted into us planning that we thought it is best to do this more often, sometimes with our family as well. Definitely a stress-buster.

They were days well spent. Nothing to worry about, relaxed mind, sweet thoughts of the future, planning ahead, positivism and laughter out of recalling some encounters in the past.

Yes, I’d like to agree to be doing this more often. =)
